I've been enjoying Ken Sakata's videos speaking about Japanese fashion. Besides being informative, I find watching someone speak to their expertise and deep interest extremely captivating. The suggestion at the end of this video has been on my mind, and I believe something valuable to consider.
"I suppose the lesson 50 years on almost is not how to adopt the Japanese visuals, but to think like a young designer trying to establish yourself among something that is established. How do you approach design through your own context, using your own background, your own cultural history, to utilize your own secret advantages to create something new?"
